- 1 June 2007: Inversion of chapter 2 & 3
- Registration of substances in quantity > 10t /year: an extended SDS should be required
- SDS will assume a more significant role because SDS will include Exposure Scenario (ES)
- SDS will convey information from relevant Chemical Safety Assessment (CSA)
- SDS will have to be adapted to allow inclusion of:
- registration number (s) if available
- (identified) uses and uses advised against
- substance subject to authorisation
- details of any restriction
SDS is organised according to GHS (*) format.
(*) GHS = Globally Harmonised System of Classification and Labelling
Chemicals, through the different steps from their production to their handling, transport and use, are a real danger for human health and the environment. Then the Commission and Member States recognise the need of an internationally-harmonized approach to classification and labelling.
GHS addresses classification of chemicals by types of hazards and proposes harmonized hazards communication elements, including labels and Safety Data Sheets. The GHS also provides a basis for harmonization of rules and regulations on chemicals at national, regional and worldwide level.
